The petitioner proposes to continue research on the effects of alternative feed ingredients, such as insects and plants with natural antibiotic effects, on gene expression in fish. This work aims to improve aquaculture nutrition and production while reducing reliance on antibiotics to mitigate the global threat of antimicrobial resistance.

The petitioner proposes to evaluate the correlation of antimicrobial resistance between farms and food from animal sources to develop preventative measures for antimicrobial infections. He will lead the establishment of a microbiology laboratory, perform environmental monitoring and microbiological analyses, and conduct validation of raw materials to ensure food safety.

The petitioner intends to continue research on foodborne and zoonotic pathogens in livestock and animal-source foods to improve disease surveillance and public health preparedness. The work focuses on advancing diagnostic tools, risk modeling, and antimicrobial use guidelines within veterinary systems across the United States.

The petitioner proposes to explore microbial diversity and the production of bioactive compounds in harsh ecological conditions such as high salinity, extreme pH, or elevated temperatures. This research aims to identify new antibiotics and industrial enzymes to address increasing antibiotic resistance and the need for sustainable, biologically based industrial processes. He will continue to isolate, analyze, and characterize novel microbial strains for applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental engineering.
